Understanding of Managers and Their Functions

Welcome to this online courses, for the first article I will give lessons on Introduction to Management.

  1. Management is the art gething thing done through other people.
    (According to Lourence A. Apply, President American Management Association).
  2. Management is the art and science of planning, organizing, directing, coordination and controlling than human and natural resources (especially human resources) to achieve goals set in advance.
    (According to Prof. Oey Liang Tie).
Art is a skill / ability is more a person has. While management is an art because not everyone can act as a manager.

Management Elements:
  1. PLANNING
  2. ORGANIZING
  3. DIRECTION
  4. COORDINATING
  5. CONTROLLING / MONITORING
So what does the manager?
Managers can be defined as:
  1. People who achieve results through others.
  2. People who have the expertise to achieve a certain result by moving the others.
  3. People who achieve a certain result by doing the planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and controlling the factors of production (According to Louis A. Allen).
  4. Someone who achieve results through specialization in the work.
Manager Functions:

    • Planning
    • Organizing
    • Actuating
    • Controlling
  2. According to Prof. Ay Liang Lie:
    • Planning
    • Organizing
    • Directing
    • Coordinating
    • Controlling
  3. According to O. Donnel:
    • Planning
    • Organizing
    • Stafing
    • Directing
    • Controlling

Hierarchy / level managers (Management):





High and low / short length management hierarchy depends on the size of the organization concerned. According to Carrol W. Frenzal
, every leader / manager of both mid-level leaders, top or bottom of all the authority and responsibility.

I think an understanding of management quite get here first, then I will explain the management elements itself. So just waiting for my latest articles.
